What to expect?
If in person or through telehealth, your first therapy session has two main goals:
1. To Assess Your Circumstances
We will use the first meeting to understand your current circumstances and the reasons you are seeking therapy. We will explore whether our areas of expertise align with your needs.
We will begin by identifying which type of therapy may be most helpful and discussing what the process may look like based on your goals. This may include practice techniques, guided reflections, or small actions to complete between sessions. We will also talk through what progress can look like and how we can work together to support it. Your active participation is an important part of the healing process.
2. To Build A Relationship
A strong therapist-client relationship is central to our approach, so your first session will feel like a two-way conversation. We will take time to get to know you, while also helping you get a sense of who we are. During this time, we will discuss your primary concerns, your history, and the experiences that matter most.
You can expect:
- Compassion, empathy, and respect
- A therapist who listens carefully and values your perspective
- Evidence-based techniques and information
- A safe and confidential environment
- Practical strategies you can apply in daily life
- A personalized plan for treatment
I look forward to getting to know you and helping you reach your therapy goals.
Please complete the following forms prior to your first therapy session.
Confidentiality

Therapy sessions are confidential, and what you share will remain private unless you provide written consent.
There are a few legal exceptions where a therapist is required to share information to ensure safety. This may occur if:
- There is suspected abuse of a child, dependent adult, or elderly person
- A client presents a serious threat of harm to another person
- A client is at risk of harming themselves, and safety cannot be maintained within therapy
In these situations, therapists are legally required to take appropriate steps to protect those involved.
